Much colder temps coming our way, so the butterflies will soon be gone for this season. I spent some time yesterday searching, found this admiral sunning itself on the side of our pecan tree..
F/14, 1/400th, ISO 800, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext around noon with natural light.

Howard, you had such a fantastic year for butterfly images that any more you get are icing on the cake. This Red Admiral comp is unique with the BF resting on a tree trunk. Excellent eye-level, angled comp and the good detail. :toast:

Great perspective here, Howard, making for an unusual and very effective composition. I like the way you see the tips of the antennae clear against the bg and the whole image has a very natural feel to it.

Fine comp. on this Red Admiral, Howard. I like that the rear wing is sharp and showing all of it's details. The details in the bark are also fine. I do find myself wishing for a bit more detail in the shadow side body...don't know if dodging might help that or turn it into gray mush.
