This was one of the many images captured from my trip up to Door county WI, and I will be posting more from that trip. I am in the process of re-processing almost all of my images over the past several years because a whole new level has be realized in processing images and workflow with TONY Kyper and Shawn Bsgshaw's masks, actions, and videos.

Thanks so much Jared for the information the other day. :wavey:

This image was captured and Peninsula Sate Park, and wow was the light beautiful on this day.

Beautiful light!!! Really nice image and great colors.

"Jailed Color" The trees kind of remind me of jail bars. Yeah, I am weird.

Beautiful light and composition although the LLC lacks a point of interest. If I had a nit (and perhaps this goes beyond a nit) it's that I'm finding the yellow on the grass in the right foreground to be overly saturated. I think that you can get away with that level of saturation in the fall-colored trees in the background forest but up front in that grass it looks very unnatural. I don't even mind the yellow on the wispy grass to the left and back of it if you are committed to the look of the light overall. A simple tweak that will make for a better image IMHO.

Not thinking of a title off the top of my head.

Well Harley, if you hit a golf ball into a stand of trees like this, it's often referred to as "Being in jail" so maybe you're not so weird.

Thanks Harley, and I was thinking about jail bars too, maybe bared light?

Thanks for your thoughts Dave,

here is the raw image with no adjustments except for converting for web. I believe those were actually little leafs on the grasses absorbing the lights, and they were awfully saturated from the get go.

Very nice light and backround colors Ryan and a pleasing comp. I have TK's actions and Shaun's videos and the help tremendously. Also check out Mark's videos they're top notch also especially Raw processing. Nice image.

I like this image a lot. Has a painting quality to it and the light is amazing. Nice processing. Echoing a bit, if you hit a golf ball and you had that sort of view, a good title might be Fortunate Lie?

Excellent, Ryan.
Looking at the Raw image, it is almost about right for my tastes. I don't think you overdid the posted version, but I like the muted original. You did have some great light....
I would call it "Six Trees".

Wonderful image, Ryan. Really well seen. The background color is great and I particularly like the side lighting on the trees. Glad you're making good use of the fine resources from Tony and Sean. I agree with Dave about bringing down the saturation slightly on the right foreground grass (even though it was strong out of camera). The background saturation looks great as is. :toast:

Wonderful light and colors. Like the composition, as if we're all of us trees standing on the hill taking in the fall colors together.

Great eye to spot this scene. Most (myself included) would default to stepping past those trees for a clear view of the colors. Well seen and executed. Beautiful light, too.

Beautiful image, Ryan. The tree trunks make this one unique. Nice light; beautiful colors, and interesting framing with the trees. Well done. I can't help with the title, however. I struggle thinking up my own.

Well, I was thinking of "Sentinels" which is sort of like a jail. Except I was thinking they were guarding against illegal entry into the ancient forest. Sort of the reverse of Harley's jail. But it is a nice image and I like what you did here in composition, color, and exposure. The bright spot of grass didn't bother me much but I admit the redo you posted does have a better feel to it.

You are putting a lot of pressure on us to come up with a title, Ryan. Tough enough on my own images. Love this shot. If it were mine I would tone down the the foreground light and color. Not a lot, just enough to not overpower the image. Spectacular side lighting and a really good eye to take advantage of it. Everything I come up with for the title sounds pretty lame, but I'm going with "Trunk-ated light"

I think you have some good ideas for titles already, so I will stay away from that part. If I had to change anything I might try and keep the shadows a bit darker. It seems you have a ways to go before they would be considered blocked up. The difference in brightness might give the distant tree color more pop without the temptation to increase saturation. So, increase distant contrast, reduce sat. in FG sun lit area. Also, not sure where I heard or read it, but including an even number of objects-trees, stones, animals etc. gives a more static feel than an odd number. May not help this image but just something to think about when composing.

Ryan, Wow, You really caught some wonderful light on this day! Looks like you made the best of it too capturing this image. I'm especially enjoying your large version. I also like the original version best with the wonderful feel of light it has. :toast:

Ryan: Before reading the comments my first thought regarding a title was Behind Bars. Of course I spend about 80 days a year in prison so the jail thing comes to me pretty easily  (not as an inmate - yet). Beautiful light and a fine comp IMO. Well seen, captured and presented. >=))>

This is sweet, Ryan!
It's funny, I know many if not most photogs re-process a lot of their earlier work as they learn new techniques, etc--but I have no desire to, to me it feels like what was in the past stays there and if I screwed up the process back then--oh well! But that's just my odd way of looking at it...

How about "Autumn Rhythms" - inspired by the visual rhythm of the trees, and of course some lovely fall color. This is another image that I saw a couple of nights ago, but didn't have time to comment. I like it a lot - that warm light really makes this one sing and the trees seem to anchor the scene like a strong rhythm section. Ok, I'll stop with the musical metaphors.

Thanks so much for all of your thoughts on this image, and I appreciate the ideas to enhance the image. I will be catching up with some critiques later tonight and this weekend.

Y'all enjoy the day! :toast:

Oh,

I may go with rhythm of light, thanks Brian!! I really like that suggestion with the rhythm in it.

Nice lighting on the trunks with the main sidelighting and then the softer diffused light from the other side. I could see reducing the brightess some on the lit grass below the right tree. Colors of the far trees look great.

Wonderful side lighting and color Ryan. I like the original but might consider darkening the foreground a bit.
