A Quiet Moment/ Edit
by Chris Chamberlain
I've always wanted my own "Cramer". Seen many of his, and some from others. Never could really pull it off to my meet my expectations for what ever reason. But this one I like, even if it doesn't cause you to think of a "Cramer"!
Have been away a long time. A lot has changed over the last year or so. This image is from the first trip I have been able to take in a long time. Was able to do a couple of day trips here and there, but nothing much to show for it. While not doing much landscape work. I have been busy with the camera. Somehow, I've come to doing weddings. Not a lot, but some. So I have been pretty busy with that, as well as my "real job". That seems to keep me away from home and my computer at least half of the time.
I have been making a lot of new prints for an event this coming weekend. I might have over done it actually. I hope it goes well. Mostly, I made more than I would normally have just cause' I wanted to see the big prints! I figure my work flow is pretty basic, and simple compared to many. But, I'm almost always very happy with the outcome of the prints. Even if my web presentation sucks sometimes.
Sorry for my long time lack of participation. I'll try to be more involved. Hope you enjoy this one.
Thanks
Chris

17 commentsKnowing your work, I'm sure the prints for your event will be a big hit. Glad you are having fun with that.
Of course I admire what I have seen of Charles Cramer's work, but I admire yours also. I wonder just what you are trying to emulate. Cramer seems to be great at recognizing extraordinary light and capture it in a way that does not seem to overdo the emphasis on how great the light is. I'm sure I did not say that well, but my reaction seems to be more like "oooh" than "holy cow!" when I see it. I hope that makes sense. Some of his work is more calming than exciting. If that's what you are going for here, you have succeeded. I love scenes like this, that don't have startling contrasts, blazing colors or jaw-dropping features, but still make me feel wonderful and keep me looking in appreciation. (I call my finds like this "gentle spectacles.") Your appreciation of the gently beautiful things in life shows through in this image, and it makes me feel peaceful and content. Excellent handling of the soft light and the subtle beauty of the composition. Is it a Cramer? I don't know enough about that to say yes or no, but it's a side of Chamberlain that I really, really like.
Read Waynes' remarks about his reaction to this and you will know what I'm trying to say with this. Especially the line that speaks of my appreciation for the gently beautiful things in life showing through in the image. I love blazing sunsets and crazy light as much as anybody. But The lasting experiences I have enjoyed making photographs are from the quieter times. I guess what I am trying to say here is, hey don't forget to notice the little things on the way by. I could have sat here the whole day and just relaxed, and filled my lungs with the clean air.
Google Charles Cramer and enjoy!
Thanks again
Chris
This is definitely processed warmer, and more towards red and yellow in the color balance. It is not blue on my monitor at home. It is pretty blue on my phone though. ?????
Thanks
Chris
I love the tranquil nature of this capture. The image brings out a sense of inner peace in myself, and I imagine my self being there viewing this calming view. The comp look very well thought out and captured, and the details are great.
I might play around with the cyan as others have suggested and see what it looks like, and if you like it. It could have just been a very blue morning, and that maybe you were feeling that mood at the time.
Glad to have you back, I too have been gone for way too long.

Beautiful shot. I would much rather see an image like this - "REAL nature" - over some overdone icon any day of the week. Love the variety of elements and smattering of colors here. My only "suggestion" would be to play with darkening the water somewhat to better emphasize the land.
Anyway, welcome back, and I hope to see many more in the future!
Thanks
Chris
Sure hope the event you made prints for goes well.
