Afternoon Reflections

The Cathedral Rocks are mirrored in the Merced River in Yosemite.

I used a 2-stop ND Grad upside down to hold the reflection of the walls and sky while still retaining detail in the river and the stones.

Another Yosemite classic by you, Preston. I like the way the light is handled and that one rock closest to the camera in front of the illuminated canyon wall. Also the way the edge of the central rock lines up with the shadow edge. You could take a bunch of different images here as the light crept down that wall without moving your tripod.

I like this a lot, Preston. Excellent reflection and I love the interplay between Cathedral Rocks reflection and the rocks in the water. Beautiful.

Intriguing composition Preston, rich textures and just a superb overall presentation. I think if Escher had done photography, he might have done something like this. I hope you can tell I like it. (smile)

Very nice image. Perfect visual cues to have it all make wonderful light sense.

I could not wait to click on the thumbnail, seeing what looked like an upside-down photograph. Then when I opened it, the image took my breath away. I have made images somewhat similar to this (only in the sense that they are reflections anchored by rocks) but never with such complex land features and such a great dynamic range, and never with such perfect reflections. Excellent eye, and great work with the grad.

A winner Preston! It has some weird abstract quality to it that I really like. Especially the rock in the foreground contrasting with the bright cliff in the reflection is fantastic.

Nice! The interaction of the rocks with the reflection provides great interest. I've always found this subject matter and this type of composition particularly appealing.

Beautiful reflection, Preston. I'm enjoying the sense of vertigo that the rocks in the water create against that perfect reflection. Not sure if I should stand on my head to view this or not.

This has a nice elegance about it Preston, and you executed this capture beautifully!! The rocks in the reflection really transform this image into a work of art. It is kind of like it should be with the mountain supporting the rocks usually, but it is supporting the rocks through water's reflection.

Beautiful stuff :toast:
