Hippo Portrait

Another shot from Chobe, Botswana. Maybe I should have titled this "Scarface" as it looks as though he's been in a few battles. Full frame, lens balanced on boat railing as low as I could go.

Perfect comp for full frame a portrait, Nate.

I see that you included the avian (fly) in the image just above the left eye

Love it. Perfect light. The expression is great, especially the toothpick. I like the colors in the background and the fly is a nice subtle touch. Looks maybe like the focus point was on the tip of the snout rather than the eye? But there is enough DOF that it's fine. Very cool. :toast:

A technically solid frame, very well executed!
Love that eye, watching you carefully, but why did he give you that look.
May prefer some more room, all around the Hippo.

Nice sharp portrait, but don't trust the smile! Very good detail. Thanks for sharing.

Great shot. Love the "smile" and eye contact. Never realized hippos had such small ears!

What a smug looking hippo! Details are excellent and bokeh is exquisite. Love the rich colors, too.

Stunning light, detail and setting. The size of these animals (with such small ears/eyes) is incredible
