A Lioness bathed in morning golden light posing for the cameras that were pointing at her. Image taken during the June Masai Mara photo tour I led this year.

Love the light in this one. I also like the lone tree in the background. It looks like a slight CCW rotation is needed, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for stopping by guys !

@Jerry : you might be right when looking very carefully . . . well spotted

@Ken : This is one of the females of the "Cheli Pride" that I am sure you will see in your upcoming trip to Mara North. They often sleep within meters of your tent

Hi Mario,

The light on the lioness is very nice, and the colours are certainly vibrant. Position of the main subject couldn't be much better. I'm not as thrilled about the tree in the BG as the others - the instant I looked at the shot my eye went directly to the tree, not the subject (in the back of my mind I wondered what it was...probably because its shape is so unlike trees I'm familiar with my very first thought was that it was a man-made object). I understand visual balance and complementarity...but personally have a hard time viewing the tree as an asset to the image. Not trying to be negative - just describing my thoughts when I first looked at the shot (and obviously others quite like the tree!).

Cheers...

Brad

Nice light and setting, perhaps the comp could be slightly improved by cropping a bit off the top and bottom.

@ Brad : Hi Brad. Thank you once again for your very elaborate comment/critique. On this occasion however I do not agree that the blurred iconic acacia tree is a total distraction . . . The whole point of including it on purpose is to tell the viewer visually that this scene is unmistakeably somewhere in East Africa as vast open plains with an isolated acacia tree will most likely indicate that we are either in Kenya or Tanzania and it also adds sense of space IMO

Hi Mario,

Hope I didn't offend you with my comment - I was honestly just describing the way my eye moved over the image...and it WAS instantly drawn to the tree (I think largely owing to the simplicity of the image - which is a positive attribute of the image in my books). But I wouldn't call it a "total distraction"! I guess it would be boring if all of us always felt exactly the same about a given image.

Cheers...

Mario,
Thanks for your latest comment, which expresses my views entirely.
Generally when I view an image I go straight to the subject and do not look for "distractions" unless obvious or out of place in the overall image. It would not have looked right if the tree was behind the Lion
