On my first visit to the Subway a couple years ago, about 15 minutes after I arrived, I slipped on some mossy slickrock and dunked my (rented) camera in one of the pools. I had taken a few of the classic shots from above this spot before the camera died, but never got to shoot from this perspective. So, last month I redeemed myself and managed to avoid any spills. I know hundreds of others have this same general comp from this spot, but it's still a pretty amazing place and I really enjoyed my time there.

The golden reflected light from the canyon wall behind lit up these cascades perfectly, and the autumn leaves further added to the feeling of having struck "gold." I also liked the warm/cool light contrast, with the blue sky above adding nice cool tones to the deeper areas of the subway. Your thoughts? Unfiltered C&C always appreciated.

24mm, f/18, 8 seconds, ISO 400.

Love the cool to warm light and the intermix of flowing, lit-up water and drifting leaves. To me, the bottom of the picture just doesn't seem the right place to end this. My personal feeling is a crop from below up to a 4:5 would minimize the jarring impact of the speeding leaves.

Beautiful scene and a flowing composition. My main issue is with the bright green grassy at the top which is unnecessarily distracting. Probably could crop a bit and clone out the rest.

Beautiful, Jared. I gotta get done there before I get too old. What a spot, icon or not. This has the same sort of effect that Nick Bristol's shot with the moving leaves. Can't say if they detract or not. The shot is wonderful without them and quite different with them. Regardless, well worth the effort. :toast:

Jared: I never tire of Subway shots and doubt that I'll ever get there myself unless my legs get younger. The long leaf streaks at the bottom do draw my eye away from the upper part of the image which is where I really want to look. Cropping them away works better for me. >=))>

The flowing leaves are OK with me although perhaps they could be darkened a tad. I've done the same thing many a time. I agree with Kah Kit though that the bright greens at the top edge are a bit distracting. Beautiful image nonetheless, would love to get there sometime.

Hi Jared, This really is an amazing place. The light you found here is very nice and I like the cool and warm tones very much. I like the light at the end of the tunnel feel this has. I'm ok with the background green leaves but it works well without them too. A very cool look you captured here!

Jared, I like the overall composition, but do agree with a slight crop from the bottom. Also, the rock in the background looks to have a pronounced cyan cast. The light in the main portion of the image is very nice.

At first sight, I felt this image was unique Jared. There is a decadent quality to this image with the saturated mind ground, the cool and warm tones, and the wonderful light you have shared with us.

The leaves in the fg work for me in this image because the they flow nicely with the rest of the scene. Maybe I like the leaves more with a little bit of a crop from the bottom so they are not so dominating.

This is just a beautiful photography no mater which way you look at it in my book.
