Bristlecone Branch

I was amazed in the White Mountain Bristlecone Pine forest at just how many of the trees there are and how many of them are young, healthy, green growing specimens. The cones themselves were very colorful in deep shades of purple and covered in sap.

Canon T1i, f/9, 1/125 sec, ISO-200, 90mm, tripod.

This is a beautiful rendering of one of the distinctive bristlecone characteristics. They are very picturesque but, in my experience, quite difficult to photograph successfully. Your choice of the disctinctive foliage and cone is really very good. My one suggestion would be to crop out a bit on the left and top - but I'm not sure how you can do this without ending with a strange aspect ratio.

Dave: Really nice details on this bough and wonderful colors. I agree about some cropping, probably to 5:4 from the left side. I'm undecided about the BG. I think I would prefer it a bit more OOF to make it more unobtrusive or even sharper to make it a bit more recognizable  . As is it distracts me a bit although if it is cropped much less so. Hope that made sense. >=))>

Thanks for the comments... I cropped a bit off the top and left, Alberto, as suggested while maintaining a 3:2 ratio. I agree Bill that a more OOF or sharper BG might have played better here.
