You've really nailed the composition in this one, not easy to do when you've got a moving subject. I like the way you can even catch a glimpse of the bird's reflection in the water.

Luck maybe, but being there and having the skill to see the image and capture it. Well done! Thanks for sharing, would like to see the techs.

Considering that the bird is perfectly placed, the overall composure is excellent, the exposure is just right and the colors are awesome, I'd say that you might have been lucky with the opportunity but there was a lot of skill involved in the shot! Very, very nice, Mark!

I remember this one, Mark. A gentle sunset made special by the gull.

Thanks everyone! The only reason I got this shot was because I was not using a tripod. I had to react quickly - can't remember if I shot from the hip or, more likely because I got good sharpness, had my elbows on my knees. I shot at f 6.3 for maximum sharpness, at 1/125 sec, so the bird was frozen in flight. It also helped to have a small, light and responsive camera like the G15.

Lovely image, Mark ! Beautiful colour and light, and the bird is framed superbly against the sunlit water.

Many thanks to the judges and other members whose comments helped me to improve. After all this time, I never thought I would win one of these!
