Deer Sex - Rated G

I went to the nature area this afternoon and despite there being lots of people out enjoying the area, the deer didn't seem to be bothered by them. I found our big boy not far from where he was the other day and staying close to his doe. A bunch of other does were close by as well. I think the other does found it convenient to be near him as he kept other bucks at least 100 ft away. So they kind of had a refuge from the other bucks. But our hero had only eyes for one particular doe. Here we see him discreetly mounting his doe behind this fallen tree. Good view of him while her privacy is assured. He mounted her 3 times in quick succession. I'll assume she has been impregnated. I put on my 1.4 TE to get a little extra power. I lost a stop for that plus a cloudy day with diminishing light meant a pretty high ISO. So this isn't as sharp or noise free as usual. But we do get a good look at his rack. Even with the TE, I still cropped this by about 40%. I also warmed the photo a little, added contrast, and some clarity. Comments and critiques are welcomed.

Canon EOS 60D with EF 70-200mm f/4 with TE 1.4 = 280mm

Wow, that rack is something else. It has so much mass. The bases are absolutely huge. Thanks for getting us a better look.

Hey Peter,

To protect the identity of those involved - and to prevent the possibility of the buck taking legal action against NPN - I think it would be appropriate to apply disguising black boxes covering the eyes and antlers...

Cheers...

Great - you are not breaking any rules  !! Excellent detail on his face. My only suggestion would be to crop a bit off the fallen tree, perhaps half the width that you have or a bit more. I think that it is a bit too prominent and distracting. Also perhaps crop a bit off the left side, bu this may be harder to do without ending with the deer dead center. Good work!

Good shot of the "behavior". Those antlers are very odd, photo shows them well. That is before the censor blacked them out. I protest!! Thanks for sharing.

This one gave me a good laugh Peter, nicely captured and titled. I could see taking some from the top, I think it would work well as a pano also. :toast:
