A year ago, I made a suicide mission up to Whitefish Point, Michigan for hawk migration. With a 300 f4 and my old camera, I was quite limited with opportunities, but found a couple of gems. This is an extensive crop of a black capped chickadee taking a bath on the edge of a stand of Jack pine on a 45 degree day. K10d, 300mm f4 1/320 sec at f8.0, ISO 400..........Jim

Neat to get this guy bathing in a nice, natural setting Jim. The stick in the fg pulls my attention some but I think it would be a bit of a chore to remove it. I would crop a little bit from the top to make it less square and you might run some noise reduction on the bg as the crop seems to be showing some there. A nice exposure and detail on the bird considering the large crop, thanks for sharing. :toast:

Thanks Nate. I have attached a revised image based on Nate's critique--it looks a lot better :wavey:............................Jim

I agree - I much prefer the revised image. You have quite a bit of detail on the bird's face, which is harder to see in the original version. The revised image really "pulls you in".
