Tipped Over

Taken near the end of the Canyon Overlook trail in Zion National Park. Wonder why this rock formation fell over, and how long ago it did...

JPEG compression is pretty severe on this one to keep it within the posting guidelines. I invite everybody to have a look at my website where this should look a bit better.

Techs: Nikon D610 + 18-35 AF-S, tripod, two exposures blended to accomodate the high dynamic range.

Comments much appreciated!

Looks suspicious to me, Basil. After the group tipped a hoodoo in Goblin SP in Utah one really has to wonder. Throw in the woman who decided to paint pictures with acrylic on rocks in several parks and it gets uglier all the time. Admittedly, I have some shots of a couple mud hoodoos from Capitol Reef that two years later one was being lost to erosion as the top cap was removed at some point. However, that truly looked to be very natural event to me.
This one looks like it should have toppled differently if a natural event.....here's hoping I'm totally wrong.

I do like your take here and the comp works well even under these circumstances. Love the entire Zion NP area and have enjoyed many trips there over the years, many years before the trolly or bus system in usage now.

You did a good job with the dynamic range, Basil. The color and tones look quite natural. That's an interesting formation, indeed. Given the size of the toppled rock, I don't see how this could have been human-caused. Even so, it's a nice documentation of a natural mystery.

Basil. What a beautiful scene. I like the feel this has and it makes me think of a western movie in technicolor.
I also looked at it on your website and it looked really good!

This image is beautiful Basil, and the tones look natural and beautiful. The comp is well put together, and the I enjoy the color contrasts between the oranges, greens, and blues.

Nice work in photography

I really like the balance and eye movement between the rocks, lrc, and the sunlit peak ulc. You've got some great colors as well.
