December 13, 2014 at Blackie's in Newport Beach, California. I pphotographed this surfer where he repeatedly cut up the slope of the wave, reached the top and spun around so that he landed at the base of the wave going the original direction, having made a 360 degree turn. I am sorry that his acrobatic work on the wave is not able to be captured in a single photo.

Nikon D400 Nikkor 600mm lens ISO500 1/1250 f/8 White Balance Auto RAW Tripod with a Wimberley Processed in Lightroom, PhotoshopCC2014 and the white foam was dampened slightly in TK and the shot was cropped about 30%.

Your comments are welcome and appreciated. :toast:

Very competent stop action, Patrick, caught at the peak of it. There seems to be a broad halo behind the head and upraised right arm that are a mystery to me.

Phil,
I experimented with a radial mask. I guess it did not look as good as I hoped. :Thanks for the feedback. toast:

Patrick, you sure got a great series of surfing shots. The action in this one is excellent, plus I really like the transparency of the wave. There's a subtle highlight around the head and arms of the surfer, that might be natural, but looks more likely to be from dodging. If it's dodging, working through TKs dark darks or one of his combination masks might brighten the darkest parts with less effect on the dark water behind.

Great peak action shot. The surfer looks graceful and athletic in stop action. Cool shot.
