A shot I captured last year in Wisconsin. Thought the head on shot was interesting.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Yes, interesting perspective. The head looks out of proportion to the body. Good handling of the whites in the wings.

I have no advice to offer on this, but I will say I like the handling of the whites on the bird to make them stand out against the snow background. I also like the suggestion of snow behind the subject. Well taken and processed. :toast:

Hey Jerry,
Interesting Indeed,
Very cool perspective of this Fat Boy and the center composition works well. The larger version is a must see to appreciate the detail you managed. To me the head seems to be the weak link in this image and you might try to get a bit more color out of the greens and clone out the 2 snowflakes. Great POV, feather detail and BG.
Well done . . . :toast:

Mike,

I took your advice and tried to bring out a bit more color without making it look unnatural. I also cloned out the snowflakes.

Flaps down, landing gear down. Ready for landing. Nice job on this Jerry. It is an unusual perspective and I think it works pretty well. Colors and detail are great. You really nailed it. I'm not sure you can do much about the color of the head. Assuming wanting to make it more green. As the head color comes from how the light is diffracted by the feathers, I don't know if regular adjustments would improve it any. Not really sure about what to call the process but I hope you get my drift. Bottom line though is that this looks very real and you did a fine job with this photo.

Nice head on view. I like the symmetry of the shot. To each his own but I definitely would not have cloned out the snowflakes as that seems to be a little over the top. Snowflakes and flying water drops etc.are part of nature and in my opinion they do not distract in the least. I never use the clone tool except for dust spots.

Great landing shot, especially nice head-on POV & full wingspread.
Sharp with excellent color & exposure.
Would make a great hood ornament if it wasn't a mallard:biggrin:
Merry Christmas Jerry! :wavey:

Sweet shot Jerry. The re-post is an improvement. I like frontal POV as he's coming in and the snowy background.

Nice flight image Jerry. I like the head on perspective of this one and the low angle.
