Here is a busy bee hard at work in my garden. I will be posting a square version in Macro. Please look at the two, critique and tell me if they are ready for sale....and which one you like better. Thanks!

Of your 2 versions, Lucy, this is the one I prefer. Just like the wider scene better. You captured the bee well and the processing looks great. Can't comment on the photo art part as I know nothing about that. As to whether it's ready for sale, I really don't know. Perhaps you need to test. I'd go with the very best you can do in reproduction, matting and mounting so potential customers can see what is possible. Make it a star and not just a photo in a bin. At least you'll know you gave it your best shot and won't have the what if's. Good luck.

Nice capture here. I do find the OOF flowers and stems a bit distracting. I know very little about macro photography, so I'm not sure what settings would have allowed more of the scene to be in focus. I think I like the square version better, as it eliminates, for the most part, the OOF flowers. The bee is sharp, but not super sharp, so I don't know how this would hold up in a format larger than the one we see here. For shots of insects to work, they have to be super sharp, or they lose their appeal IMHO. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lucy,
Compositionally I prefer the version posted here (the pano view) - particularly in that to me the bee occupies too much of the frame in the square crop version (or, reversing that, I prefer the bee being part of a larger overall scene as presented above). That being said, and as Jerry noted, in the crop above that OOF region of flowers in the middle does distract me quite a bit.
Cheers...
