Group Shot

This is a group of the same kind of mushrooms as I posted yesterday. I liked this particular group due to a variety of sizes and it's spacing on the ground. Looked quite pleasant. I converted this from a standard horizontal as that just had too much dead space. I should have studied the shot and done it as a vertical to start. In this I think the grouping shows well and it has room to breathe in it's neighborhood. I had to tweak just about everything to get this looking natural. So, after the crop, I added 1/2 stop of exposure, a little temp and contrast. Then had to play with the light/dark sliders to get the histogram away from the left wall. As it turns out, I think this looks pretty good. What do you think? Comments and critiques are welcome.

Looks good to me, Peter. Good subject detail, and I again like the vertical, off center comp. The exposure is good, although I think you could have added slightly less exposure (exposing more for the subject than the bg). Regarding the subject, I like the presentation of what looks to me like a "mushroom family," i.e., father, mother, and child. The cut off, fallen mushroom at the bottom sort of detracts from the imagery. I think if you wanted to include the fallen one in the image, you should have added more space at the bottom so it is not cut off and so close to the edge of the frame. Finally, as a very minor issue, you could have cleaned up the bg just a bit by removing the stick above the mushrooms when shooting, but, as I say, this is a very minor point and maybe you intentionally included it in the frame.

Peter, I do like it quite a bit more than the first one. I think that the composition is stronger, especially the mushroom on the right that appears to be getting close to its mum  - but the color on the tops also look very nice, and I think that you managed to bring out the mushrooms relative to background much better than on the original picture.

I like the colors and composition. Scott has some very good comments already.

Those are way cool little mushrooms, Peter. Their colors let them stand out nicely from the background. I like the grouping and where you've got them in the frame, but do wish to see the fallen one at the bottom not be cut off. Your processing and colors look very realistic. Yes, I almost certainly would have, very gently, lifted that stick out of the way. Alternatively, cropping to just above it reduces its presence nicely.

Much prefer this to your previous post, Peter. The fall of oak leaves crowding in on the mushrooms provides a very positive contrasting element in the composition, though I wonder if you might have removed the twig at the top to advantage ? Your efforts in processing seem to me to have paid off nicely.
