Seattle's Clown

This sculpture of JP Patches created by Kevin Petelle adorns Solstice Plaza at the north end of the Fremont Bridge, Seattle, WA. Most of us local area "baby boomers" grew up watching JP (Chris Wedes) and Gertrude (Bob Newman) on TV, and now they are well memorialized in this fine sculpture. His many fans ("Patches Pals") still miss him after his passing in 2012 at age 84. What a guy!

D750, 105/2.8 micro, circ.pol., handheld; f5, 1/640, iso 800. Post-processing: a little burning and dodging in Ps5 and highlight control in NIK. Otherwise, straight from the camera– the more I work with the D750, the more I'm glad I made the upgrade!

Thanks for viewing and for comments.

His looking at his watch makes me think he is late and has to run. The background scene is just enough to set the scene. Fun sculpture and image of it. Have a great New Year Catherine and enjoy the holidays.

His "make up" really lets the face shine here, Catherine, but I think his arm and hands plus the back side "reflection" behind him (I'm guessing Gertrude??) really pull this together. He sure looks like he's having fun.

Hi Catherine, I like the color tint that surrounds the clown-face. Strange as that may sound, this has a still-life smokey look that is pleasant and warm. Nicely done!
