Winter

Taken during a hike yesterday. The days at these latitudes (~63 deg) are short in December/January, but the light during those few hours is very special. I absolutely love it!

21 mm, f/16, 30 s, ND6 filter.

C&C welcome, larger version is included.

Happy new year!

Roel

Oops, forgot to fill in the complete title.... Whatever, I suck at making up titles anyway.

That's gorgeous Roel. I love this type of soft light. I call it "co-luminous". Coloured light that is indirect, (no shadows), but with a colour content that picks up on its subject in this case orange in the water and edge rocks. You have a perfect balance of the former with the greyish blue of the overhead sky reflected on the ice coated rocks.

Soft and cool image with the filter cutting lot of highlights too. I would prefer to have a little more highlight on the ice coated rocks... :toast:

Very nice, Roel. Good combination of soft warm color and gray rock/snow. I could see cropping a bit of sky depending on final size needs.

Hi Roel,

I like the interaction of pale orange and grays in the landscape. The exposure captued some wonderful texture of the snow too. :toast: ..........Jim

Roel, love it. Those streaks in the sky help move my eye around the scene; from the upper left corner to the tip of the crescent shaped rocky shore all a way around to the other tip then back to the sky again. The stillness in the water from the long exposure creates a nice negative space that ensures the viewers eye remains primarily focused on the shore and sky. My only real suggestion; and it's not really a nit as this is a very nice image, is to wait a few days or so and take another stab at it because you might be able to make it even better, i.e. colors in the sky, contrasts etc. , once the excitement dies down. That's been my experience anyways.

Roel, I love the long exposure presented here. The detail in the rocks and the soft light are mesmerizing. Beautiful :toast:

Fantastic scene Roel that you've rendered perfectly. I love the subtle color and the depth in the rocks.

Stunning image with the warm sky/water contrasting with the cool tones of the frozen rocks. I'm not sure about the cyan tint to the ice on the rocks but it does add to the early morning mood. Nice capture

Orange & gray. What an interesting, unusual, and unique color combination. Great processing.

You are right - the light is simply otherwordly. The contrast between the cool colors on the snow and rocks and the warm colors in the sky and water is simply fantastic. :toast:

I agree about the lighting in this image - it is beautiful yet subtle. I would suggest cropping about 1/3 - 1/2 of the sky. The reflected light in the water is beautiful.

Terrific combination of cold and warm, Roel. The wrinkles in the snow on the foreground rock near the left corner (seen best in the larger version) grab my eyes and then lead around the big sweeping curve of stone and snow. The subtle colors in the sky (and their reflections both in the water and from the snow & rocks) make a chilly looking foreground seem inviting. I like this very much as presented but could also see cropping about half of the sky to give more emphasis to the warm light.

I love the inherent softness of the color, here; especially in the water. The ice on the rocks adds to the mood of a cold winter day.

Happy New Year to you, too!

The 30 second shutter transformed the water into something magical with the reflected light, and the framing of the snow covered rocks is perfectly done in this image Roel.

I love it as well :toast:

Sweet. I like the bit of warm color in the sky and water juxtaposed with the coolness of the rest of the scene, Roel. Great work.

Sky, water and comp is excellent. Can you bring the snow / ice out a little more?
Photo has a relaxing / peaceful feeling. Great capture! Hope you didn't get frostbites.
