At one of the county beaches on Fire Island (a place where no cars are allowed, aside from the parking lots associated with the public beaches) there are several fox and many deer that hangout waiting for handouts from humans. It's a bit sad to see, the animals have no fear and it takes the excitement away from finding a fox on your own, but never-the-less it creates a unique opportunity for photography.

This was one of three that were around that day

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 + 1.7X TC HH from car
f/8
1/500s
ISO 500

Cropped to about 75% for compositional purposes, minor adjustments in LR5

I like this a lot. Beautiful colors on this beautiful fox. If I had to offer a suggestion it would be more room on the bottom and slightly less on top. Well done.

Great image. I like the color of the grass complimenting the color of the fox and giving a sense of environment.

Nice capture, Luke. I feel you made excellent choices in composition using this pose, creating nice diagonal from tip of tail and up the backline to opposite corner, with fox focus leading more to the lower right corner. Techs look fine with good depth of field encompassing the entire fox. Good eyes, too!

I understand about the excitement thing Luke, but when you haven't seen a fox in several years (other than one running across a busy road at 4 am) you take what you can get.
I also think the techs look good and nice job of getting him in this environment with he tall grasses without having them compete with the fox.

Why don't you make it a few more years?

Wish this image was mine. Natural setting, good eye contact and a beautiful specimen. Keep the great images coming. We need representatives from the East Coast on NPN. We have a lot of natural forest and seacoast areas with animals in the wild than most people realize, i.e. fox, snowy owls, etc.

A beautiful animal well photographed. I like the pose and the intelligent look in its eyes. I also like the grass behind the fox. I would agree with Jerry about taking some off the top and adding a bit in the foreground. A very minor nit, as this is really quite nice. I can see it framed and hung on the wall.

P.S. Please consider sticking around NPN a while longer.
