Snow on the Steamboat667

A snow storm came across Arizona at the end of 2014. A quick trip to the Grand Canyon was thwarted by the closure of I-40 on new year's day, so I turned around and headed to Sedona. This was taken from near the airport overlook. Supposedly, the amount of snow received was the most in many years.

Excellent use of a layering/pano technique, layering both in light and texture. Well thought out and executed. :toast:

Beautiful, Doug! I grew up in AZ and we went to Sedona many times a year. In fact, after meeting my wife-to-be after moving to BC, I convinced her to get married in Sedona, with those very formations in the background of many of our wedding pics. Of course, we were sweltering in 95F September temps that day, but I always loved it when we caught a frosting of snow in the winter there.

You've captured the light wonderfully here and as Phil commented, the layers are striking.

Hey Doug, it's good to see that there was some sunshine in North America on New Years Day. That's some fine light on the rocks along with some wonderfully subtle colors in the clouds. The dusting of snow adds a fine touch of novelty here.

Nice light you captured here! I'm not too sure about the clear part on the right, since it removes a significant part of the intimacy of this scene, and it's that intimacy that really makes this photo for me. So I might crop that away, and some of the darker part on the left to balance the picture. Other than that this is great!

I've looked at this image several times now Doug, and it gets a WOW! The lighting is spectacular. Not a bad result for an impromptu change of plans.

Happy New Year! :toast:
