Calico Pennant

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted January 4, 2015134 views6 comments

Another dragonfly that I took down in Washtenaw County, Michigan. This female calico pennant was perched on some grass in a drainage ditch. Lighting was not ideal, but was able to pull off a few shots. K5 IIs, 300mm f4 + 32mm extension (1/180sec at f9.0, ISO 200) TK's Make it glow, Levels, Brightness, sharpened for web................Jim

Beautiful image. Sharp detail and pleasing background. Well composed. I like the lines formed by the dragonfly and the plant.

Excellent, sharp detail almost all the way through the insect, Jim, and a superb graded background. Love the positioning in the frame and the pose on the curled leaf.

She looks fine, Jim. Sharp all along the abdomen and head as well as in important parts of her perch. I think seeing the shadow of her wings on the grass is a neat addition.

Very nice, Jim. Strong lighting but very well controlled. Superb detail.

Fine-looking specimen. Excellent work lining up the focal plane for great detail where it counts. Your exposure and processing make the "not ideal" lighting look great.
