Standing Strong + Reposted Image

Good day y'all, Reposted image below

I captured this image from this year while up in Door County at Peninsula State park WI. It was captured on a calm, beautiful and peaceful evening, my last night in this wonderful place. I had planned this image for a couple of days, but the conditions needed to be right. It was very windy the day before, and there was not a chance for a sunset. On this day, it rained out all day, but I had faith it would clear up for a sunset image, and my faith rewarded me.

I will be posting another image from about 15 or 20 minutes later. Same exact comp, but just different light.

Thank you for for any thoughts y'all may have on this image.

Hey Ryan,
This project was indeed a very good idea and very well executed. All the elements have unique interest and all work well together. You need some CW rotation to level the horizon, other than that, excellent composition IMO.

Beautiful!! The rotation has been mentioned and it looks a bit cyan in the sky? Maybe shift it a bit more toward blue? Minor stuff, sweet image.

Wow, Ryan. This is an exceptional image (and I'm not just saying that because you commented on mine). The greatest thing are those yellow leaves across that cyan/blue sky. That works so well perhaps because there is so much empty space. Great composition with an inverted V extending to the tree and pretty much nothing else. The patches of blue on the rocks are an obvious problem but can (and should) be dealt with very easily.

I predict you will get many comments for this one.

Ryan, This is a wonderful image and has such a nice feel. I like this comp a lot and the tree with the golden leaves is a great focal point. The foreground rocks work perfectly leading you back into the scene. I do feel taking the cyan to a little more blue might be a good choice. This is really a wonderful image that I'm enjoying very much! I think I want to get back to Door County again!

This is real sweet, Ryan. The composition is strikingly simple and effective at conveying the mood. I do agree about the minor color issues and the rotation of the horizon. The warm color of the leaves against the sky is very nice.

Well done!

Sweet, sublime image, Ryan. The tree leaves contrast beautifully against the blue bg. :toast:

I think that the second version works better - I especially like the color of the reflection in the water quite a bit more. The composition and light are beautiful - I'd be happy with either version!

Ryan I think this is a really beautiful scene and I like how you used the rocks to create a strong leading line right to the subject. The centred tree along with the still water creates a nice feeling of stability and calm. I think this image could be a real stunner but it needs a few adjustments in my humble opinion. First off I would increase the overall contrast somewhat but more so in the bottom half to bring out some extra details in the rocks below the water surface. I would also increase the saturation of the leaves and brightness to make your subject really pop against the blue sky. Reducing the blue in the water would create better separation between the sky and your mid ground and bring some addition depth to the image; and finally, a 5x7 crop taking everything off the bottom would make this stronger to my eye, as those two large stones seem like a more logical starting point. :toast:

Congrats on a well planned and well executed capture...how nice to have the weather cooperate...can you send me some of that? I sure do like how the out of water rocks lead back to the tree and it's position against the subtle sunset colors in the sky. This is a very peaceful, serene scene. The repost is a good improvement, especially with the extra pop in the reflected colors.

Beautiful subtle color throughout, Ryan. My only nit would be that on a comp like this I prefer that the primary subject(s), in this case the tree, are perfectly centered instead of off by just a tad. Cropping a bit from the left however would mess up the centering of the FG rocks so perhaps this is the best you could do. Great image nonetheless!

ETA: I prefer the sky of the original post as the cyan feels a bit overdone in the re-post.

This is a beautiful image and has of course a wonderful feel. The comp works well for me and the tree with its golden leaves are a great point of interest. Also the foreground rocks works well and lead the yes into the image. Well done. I'd prefer the second version.......the horizon looks still tilted somehow

This is a very nice image. I love the simplicity, and actually think I prefer the original warmer/ version. But, both look good and I too would be happy with either one.
