Noticed this deer body a few feet off of the country road I was on. A red tailed hawk was feeding on it in plain view, but flew off as I slowed down for the curve at this point on the road. There were a few crows in the nearby trees, I thought they could be waiting for the hawk to leave. Took a quick photo with a P&S I carry in the car.

I assume this is road kill initially, and much feasting shortly thereafter? Graphic enough!

John - from the thumbnail I thought this was some discarded object (a bright red one). It was a surprise to open up the image. The volume of road-kill is sad, but it does keep the cycle going if carcasses are left for birds or coyotes, etc... Around here, the common practice seems to be for a road maintenance crew to come remove the unfortunate individual.

When moose are killed in Alaska (which is often in the winter). It is donated to needy families. Their is a list, the state calls the first ones on it and they have to come to the scene and dress the moose themselves. It is effective.

Ok, that's disgusting. I know that Nature is our first teacher about "recycling" and we can all learn from it. But it is likely that this poor creature died at the hand of man. To see this gentle animal torn to pieces in such graphic detail hurts me. Let it lie in peace. Cover its head. Give it some respect. :frown:
