Lake Superior Winds

I made this picture in Upper MI along the shoreline of Lake Superior. This was in January 2013 and it was a very snowy, cold and windy morning with temps around -20. I remember hearing on my truck radio that the wind chills along the lake were from -35 to -50 below zero. I wasn't staying out for to long at one time on that morning. It was a hard morning to shoot but I did actually enjoy it. This is one of the shots I made on that cold windy morning that I thought captured some of that feel. Thanks for looking.

Nice snow shot. I have made a number of similar images in sand dune areas. Amazing what can be available at our feet if we look and see!

This definitely feels cold, Nick.

Simple yet effective composition. I Like the subtle texture in the snow as well as the tonal contrast provided by the grasses.

Truly beautiful. I'm not sure whether this is B&W or a very undersaturated color image, but either way the color treatment is perfect for the sense of cold - it really conveys the sort of conditions that you describe!

Another very artistic image. I really like this. I could see it blown up big on the wall of an art gallery some place.

Simple and graphic and I like the arrangement in the frame. Not sure what I would change. Like it as is.

Exquisite image, Nick. I love the graphics here with the wind blown grasses nestled in the snow. This does portray the mood you were looking for IMO. I could also see this working with the grasses coming in from the LS being cloned out. Not necessarily better, just an alternate comp. Either way I could see this hanging on someone's wall.

This sure reminds me of some of the large format b&w classics, Nick. The subtle shapes in the snow add so much interest to the strong contrast between the grass and snow. Well seen.

Wonderful graphic quality to this image. The sketchy blades of grass, swayed by the wind, bring to mind Paul Klee's remark about ` taking a line for a walk '.

Very nice graphic image! At first I thought it might be beach grasses and sand. But the texture and somewhat buried blades of grass got me seeing it right. Not to mention the title
