Good one John! I like the setting you caught this bird in as well as the details and colors. It is an alert pose and the BG shows the bird off nicely. It does look slightly soft in the large image, but IMHO not enough to distract. Thanks for sharing.

Nice one. Usually, at least in Brazil, those rails are hard to shot in the open like you did. Nice job.

Super capture John.
My only niggle is that when viewing the large photo I find the water above the bird's head and back to be a bit bright. But that is only a minor thing.

Love these rails, unless when the water is frozen, they rarely show themselves here in the open. A slightly lower POV could have worked as well, but as you may know I am fond of low-angle images  . Congrats with this one ! Cheers, Hans
Edit: I like it a lot that you included part of the natural habitat !

nice! I might try to reduce the magenta tones in the water, otherwise, it looks really good. nice pose and comp.

Hi I really like this picture! I really like the background, the bird is really sharp and I like that you caught its foot coming forward.

Pretty bird and a nice pose, John. Maybe not tack sharp but the comp and vibrant colors make up for it.

I don't remember seeing a better shot of a Water Rail. Plumage, beak and composition are very good indeed. For me it is unique.
