Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted January 23, 2015249 views10 comments
Taken last summer at Fellows Riverside Gardens. D600, 150 macro, 1/2000, f4.5, iso 400. Cropped about 60% from an original vertical comp, so image is a little noisy. Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome.

Depth of field works just right to focus attention on the fly's eyes and flower center. I don't see that noise in this image is a big issue !

Hey Scott,
As I am sure you know, I am not a big fan of Bees on Yellow Flowers -
But this one does work for me, the BG is really nice with the hints of purple, your crop choice is well balanced and the pollen covered face of the subject has wonderful detail. Man !

Nice sharp focus on the subject and softly blurred supporting elements are working together nicely. The noise doesn't seem to detract much, if at all.

The emphasis on the fly's face and eyes works great here, Scott. The overall color combination is very pleasing also. The golden glow around the flow adds nicely.

Love the focus on just the middle and the fly. The purple does a good job of making me look back and forth from the fly's eye color to the BG. So, I wind up looking, clockwise, all around the BG colors, seeing the green and the center bottom green, and, finally coming around to the blue and yellow colors in the wings and abdomen. Nice job of making my eye do a little work

Hi Scott,
The image quality did not decrease much if at all from your crop. There's enough DOF to get the head and important part of the flower in focus. Colors are nice and rich......................Jim

Great head on view of this hoverfly, Scott! I like your DOF choice. Also, the colors and the bg are beautiful.

A quite hypnotic image, Scott ! The close focus on the head and the leading stamens, coupled with the shading of the red of the eyes, draws you strongly into the image. Perfect for my tastes !!!

Great colors that seem to glow, like the head-on POV and dark BG that sets this one off..
Nicely done Scott
