High-Key on the High-Sea

A different avian shot than what I normally do - but this year I'm trying to be a bit more creative and push my boundaries.

I had never seen a Magnificent Frigatebird in Florida on my many trips down there (so plenty in Central America) so I was happy to find this bird effortlessly flying above the intracoastal in Jupiter Florida.

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 + 1.7X TC HH from a boat
1/2000s
ISO 800
f/8

Cropped to about 70% for compositional purposes, converted to B&W and bumped a bit to make it a true high-key image

Seen these birds in Sarasota Florida some years back but not on last years visit. Like your idea on creativity, this certainly works for me .

Hey Luke, great to hear that you are trying other things, this one looks really nice - wish you had posted a larger version.. I have made a similar shot of this bird while in Cuba last month - with some clouds as well in the BG - but to be honest, I guess I like yours better  .. Cheers, Hans

Glad to see you thinking differently and trying something new Luke. I like the concept of this, but I do find myself wishing the sky had some color to it.

Cool effect, Luke. I've always thought they looked and flew like kites...

neat shot, Luke. It could use a black bg/frame to set it off from the rest of the NPN page.
