We witnessed this tender moment between a large Giraffe bull and a youngster at a waterhole in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Kalahari desert) in South Africa over December. These lanky ungulates were reintroduced to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the 1990s after being hunted out at the turn of the 20th century.

Techs:
Nikon D800
Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 150mm
f7.1 | 1/640 SS | ISO-110

Very nice Morkel. I like the fact that you have other giraffes in the background. Nice moment that you witnessed.

Hey Morkel,

Tender moment indeed! I'm left wondering if this two-headed (and six legged??) specimen represents a new species?

I'm wondering if the 'scape approach here might be working a little against you here? Perhaps going this wide has taken away from the feeling of closeness/tenderness this interaction should be conveying? At first glance the two heads don't really grab one's attention, especially with how they overlap the similarly coloured background ridge.

Cheers...
