Interesting behavioral shot. Slightly out of focus throughout.

Looks like your first post. Welcome to NPN. Be prepared to learn a lot. It would help if you posted the larger image that is allowed. Makes it easier to critique. Even from the small image, it is clear that the image is soft. Not sure where the focus point was, because everything looks soft. Keep posting and you will be amazed at how much you learn.

Welcome to NPN, Jorgen! A good beginning, telling a story that is easily understood. There are some minor issues: 1) Centered subject. If you have the room, more canvas on the left would be desirable; 2) Softness. Whatever sharpening is available in Aperture needs to be applied; 3) The bird is quartered away from you. Better is full profile, best is quartered toward you and hopefully getting a catchlight in the eyes.

Thanks for joining! I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Jorgen:

Looks like your first post on NPN. Welcome! Happy to have your participation on NPN and in the Avian critique gallery.

Thanks for posting your technical shooting data. That always helps. You also have the option to post a larger image at the same time in the posting form. The larger image is 1200 px on the long edge and really helps with critical viewing and critiques.

You caught a nice moment with the bird pulling food up out of the ground. Technically the image looks like it is not quite in focus. I'd expect to see more feather detail. Exposure: The whites of the bird are an important part of the overall image and they are overexposed showing little or not detail. Maybe you can pull some of that exposure back in RAW processing (assuming you are shooting in RAW).

Again, welcome to NPN. Look forward to your images and your comments on the work of other photographers.

Jorgen, I concur with the other's critique of this image but most importantly welcome you to NPN. As a relatively new member myself I can vouch for the fact that you will learn a lot. We encourage you to continue to post and comment on other's works as well

Your picture certainly tells a good story. You have gotten some good advice from others so I would only be repeating the same. Welcome to NPN!
