Denal Sunrise, Winter

Winter mornings make one feel like the snake charmer that had trouble getting his asp out of bed. At least February sunrise isn't that early.

Denali sunrise from Talkeetna:

The soft, warm lighting on Denali looks great, Tom, and the pano works well at showing off how much mountain there is. I'm torn about the silhouetted foreground...it creates a good sense of seeing from a distance and the touch of water llc is important, but it also makes me want to walk up to the edge and see across the broad valley...so maybe that's good overall.

Awesome colors here and the landscape is so grand. I would chop off the bottom section as it is in such stark contrast to the star of the show. With respect to the tops of the trees - I'd either PS them out or try and crop above that

I like this as presented, Tom. Cropping above the FG trees would put the soft light at the bottom of the mountains on or too close to the bottom edge. That's the light I like best. I don't think cloning the trees out is necessary... I don't find them distracting.

What a great picture of the mountain. Your are one of the lucky few that has gotten a clear view of Denali. Great image with beautiful light.

Only 4 comments? I'm surprised there weren't more attaboys for this one. What an imposing mountain. And the light is so sweet. I guess it's the black fg that's the reason. Cropping the fg changes the proportions in the image which diminishes the image. I wonder if lightening the dark area just a tad to bring out some definition would be helpful.

At the expense of commenting on my own image: often what one needs in Alaska, at least the forested areas, is a Cherry picker to get above the trees and brush. I am a believer in found images, perhaps a better developer of vision. The issue here is indeed there are few places to get a clear view of Denali around Talkeetna. Ansel Adams had a platform on top of his old Ford Woodie, I have tried this but the suspension on a vehicle introduces unhelpful movement with wind or passing traffic..

Thanks for the comments! Tom

Tom, What a beautiful scene this is! The light and colors are just wonderful. It works really nice for me as it is and I'm just wishing I had been there to see this. This is the next best thing!! Nice work.

Hi Tom,

So the legend of Denali was feeling social on this fine day, eh? I love the glowing light on the mountain, and the dark foreground trees are a small nit to me, but this image is so very enjoyable because of the character of Denali and the sweet light.

Beautiful work!
