Sunset Reflection

by Allen Brooks

I was out shooting shorebirds (hence the long lens) and came upon a small pool amongst the dunes. The sun was setting and I liked the reflected clouds in the still water (unusual to have no wind) and the red glow on the sand and the piece of driftwood floating in the pool. I would have liked to have had a shorter lens and more room to the right of the driftwood.

Canon 7d
100-400 mm at 100 mm
ISO 100
1/160
f 4.5

Thanks for looking. Your comments are appreciated.

Nice light, color and composition. It looks like it needs a slight rotation to the left.

Really peaceful image, Allen. I like the grasses as much as the reflection. Nice work.

I like this a lot Allen....
Beautiful pastoral image with an abstract feature in the center of it all to add interest.
Well seen and well done....

Beautiful reflection and scene. I might burn down or clone out the white foam (?) on the shoreline. Very peaceful and tranquil.

Great colors in the reflected sky, and the symmetrical log adds some nice detail. Reminds me of a crocodile!

This is spectacularly warm and peaceful Allen. Very well seen. As a very minor nit, I think I'd clone out what looks like birds on the bank behind the grass just left of center.

I really like this composition Allen. The soft puffy clouds vs the sharp distinct shoreline. Works real well. I don't think the log really adds much to the scene but it's fine.Well seen.

Hi Allen,

This image works so wonderfully well for myself. There is such a nice feeling of balance created in this image, and this image exudes tranquility.
A thought,I could see where a vertical composition could well here as well with the driftwood. Maybe could see a bit more grasses and the sweet light on them in that kind of comp.

Wonderful work with what you have created here Allen :toast:

Lovely. The driftwood sets if apart and like how it's off-center just enough.
