Red-tailed Hawk

A hawk feasting on a rabbit in the fens of Boston. This fellow has no fear of humans which allowed me to take this shot at 70mm. I cloned a building in the background.

5D3, EF 70-200 F/4 IS

1/180s, F/8, ISO 100

Cheers,

Hisham.

Great image!! I like your POV, as well as the sharpness and detail. Do wish for a bit more detail in the highlights, but that is just a minor item. Thanks for sharing.

Great low perspective on this guy. Gory, but a great behavioral shot.

Outstanding behavioral image. The low angle and great DOF make this a very unique image. Great work.

That is a really amazing image Hisham, great job getting close and the short lens yields such a different perspective. As far as techs I would have shot it at least at iso 400 to gain more shutter speed, your image looks plenty sharp but that camera has no noise at iso 400 so I wouldn't have taken the chance at a low shutter speed of not getting it sharp. :toast:

Thanks all for commenting. Nate, in retrospect I agree with you. I'm experimenting with having the ISO on auto. The camera seems to always opt for the lowest ISO possible. I wish The 5D3 had a mode which allows one to choose the aperture AND shutter speed with the camera picking the ISO. While this is possible is M mode, there's no way to apply exposure compensation there. I'm really baffled that Canon doesn't update the software to allow this. Maybe it's there way of pushing people to upgrade their equipment which might work in my case.

Cheers,

Hisham.

A killer shot "literally and figuratively". Absolutely love the low POV and the action. An image to be proud of without a doubt.

The POV showing the surroundings makes it look like a wide-angle shot, which adds enormously :toast: :toast: , Hans
