A backyard shot of a female Cardinal. There's been times this Winter when I've counted a dozen cardinals in my yard at the same time. This was one of the first photographs I took with my recently purchased D750. I would have cringed trying to use an ISO of 2000 with my D300s.

D750
Nikkor 300mm f4, 1.4 TC (420mm)
ISO 2000
1/800 @ f/7.1
Tripod
PP in LR CC, Nik & PS CC
Comments appreciated.

Hi John:

A very nice portrait of this female Cardinal. Pleasing background, if not just a touch bright. I'm not sure I understand the amount of space above the bird and the tight framing at the bottom? Do you have more room at the bottom?

Unfortunately I captured her too low in the frame and I wanted to maintain the aspect ratio when I cropped it. I'll work on a revised version when I get time with some added canvas on the bottom using the technique you showed us at the workshop. Thanks!

Nice capture John. I like the raised crest on the Cardinal and I would echo Keith's comments and it seems you know what to do to fix it. Well done!

Gorgeous shot, John! Absolutely perfect DOF do get all the "good stuff" tack sharp and make a smooth background.
The only nit I had was the framing, but I see that's been covered. "Frame shifting" is super easy now with content-aware fill.
