Storm Watch

My first post...Image was made early afternoon in Dana Point, So Cal. Did not get much rain from this weather, but great storm clouds on the horizon most of the afternoon. There is a speck of a boat on the sea so I thought this gallery might be best. Would welcome your comments on the position of the horizon and the amount of sky in this image.

Personally I think this belongs in the landscape forum. I would never have seen that speck if you hadn't mentioned it and even in the large version you can't tell what it is. It could be driftwood or a distant bird from appearances.

Welcome to the board. This is a beautiful image that should get valuable criticism in that forum.

Impressive clouds, especially the ones in the distance are very interesting. Position of the horizon looks fine to me, rules are there to be broken, and in this case ignoring the rule of thirds works.

Welcome to NPN. I like the composition of this image. It has some nice layers. The green and yellow of the foreground contrast nicely with the storm clouds. I to think it should have been in the landscape forum.

I should have added more critique for this image. This is truly a marvelous image. The foreground foliage is vibrant and yet not over the top. There is a wonderful richness in tone and color there. The clouds add the mood to the image which you have decided to make dramatic. Having lived in Socal I have never seen such a dramatic sky but this certainly has emotional impact. I think you've done a great job.

Welcome Stephen - I'm also a relative newbie and am totally hyped with NPN. You got some really beautiful light here, the kind of dark mood that I really like !!!! And a composition that adds depth. I agree that landscape would have been a better gallery, though.
