Snowy Cardinal

I was photographing Northern Cardinals during a heavy wet snow in upstate NY and upon later examining the images noted the interesting "snowburst" from this bird! Not quite sure how this happened...

Great catch!! Good color and details. I would consider cloning out the two snowflakes in the upper right hand as to me they pull attention away from the cardinal. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah right... we know you threw a snowball at the poor cardinal! Awesome result. No nits here.

Scott, this has a great fun factor to it. I would vote for cloning out those two snowflakes in the urc. I'm torn on whether the reds seem over-saturated or not. Without a larger image its hard to tell. Cool shot!

I agree with the other comments. Great catch. My first reaction: How did he zoom only a part of this image; then I thought maybe Cardinal had just crunched a seed of some kind, with snow on it, causing snow to "explode"?

Really cool action shot, Scott! As for the source of the "snow spray" I would tend to agree with Jim. After seeing all the snow on its beak, I wonder if it picked up a snow-covered seed and made it spray when it crunched.

Great to see you posting on NPN. (from a neighbor -- I live in northern Saratoga county) Looking forward to your comments as well as images. Well Scott, this is very unusual and love it when you open a capture and find surprises. :toast:
