Hunting GBH

Great Blue Heron in a classic hunting pose. I like the inclusion of the habitat here, especially the green seaweed clinging to the rocks. Some may think it's too busy. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about it. Close to full frame. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Thanks for looking, as always comments & suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The larger version is very nice, showing lots of detail. The setting is fine for my tastes and very natural. There's plenty of room in the world of photography for showing habitat in this manner.

Hi Steve, I like the concentration in this Fella's eye, the way you framed it and just how sharp it is. All the colors in this photo blend so nicely.
Great Photo :toast:

I like the environment in this image. You didn't mention flash, but the image has a bit of a flash appearance to me. Flash used? Certainly would have had to be HSS at 1/5000

Hi Keith, I did not use any flash just the late afternoon sun. I re-checked the exif and the techs are right. I slightly darkened the rocks behind the heron, maybe that's giving it a bit of flash look. I'm not sure. 1/5000 was definitely overkill for this shot, I did not need iso 800. Thanks!

Nice-looking bird, great pose, nice-looking habitat and super-sharp. I think darkening the background was a good idea. It's out-of-focus just enough to avoid losing the bird in the habitat details, but the extra tonal separation makes it work even better.

I really like the pose of the GBH Steve. I like the inclusion of the habitat intros and makes it stand apart from a lot of other GBH images.

Nicely composed Steve, I like how the neck of the heron curves through the frame. :toast:
