Ring-Necked Drake

Another Ring-Neck Drake. While the coloration is not as flashy as some ducks, there is a regal look to these guys that makes them one of my favorites. Perhaps it is also the fact that they are very wary, making great captures special. I liked the front on view of this guy with a hint of habitat in the background.

Processed using Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC 2014. Comments and critiques welcome.

Jerry, I was out just the other day trying to capture these guys and I envy your success. I also like the front view but not as crazy about the hint of habitat in BG. Great, great image.

Nice detail in the head. I find the background a bit distracting and for some reason a little dizzying, but the subject looks great. :toast:

Nice catch Jerry, having it more or less swimming in your direction adds. The BG does not really disturb me .. Cheers, Hans

Jerry, I like the duck swimming toward you and the low POV. The habitat in the bg does not bother me. It give the image a sense of place. Nice shot!

Jerry: I agree--very regal look. And a very handsome species IMO. Nice frame all around and I too like the bit of OOF habitat in the background adding a sense of place. Nice job with the extreme tonal range on this as well. I'm not really sure what might be a valid suggestion for improvement, except perhaps a lower angle of view might bump this up a touch but I also know from my own experience that dropping down to water level means an immediate evacuation for most waterfowl!
