Red-winged Blackbird

Red-winged Blackbirds are one of my favorites. Their call, one of my favorite sounds in nature, heralds the coming of spring. I like the pose with him displaying his red feathers, though I would have liked a better view of the left eye.

Canon 7D
100-400 mm at 375
1/1250 at F5.6
ISO 200

Thanks for looking and comments appreciated.

Wow, that's the biggest RWBB display I ever saw! Hey, his eye is where it is/ but catching both red patches like that is really something special. The background and "exploded" cattail perch are cool, too.

Spectacular display of the Red-winged BB ! I've never seen the red wing patches flare like that ! Background is also very nice. Excellent capture Allen ! :toast:

I commend you for a very nice RWB image, particularly those red wing patches. I find it challenging to get a good RWB photo, and your success here inspires me that it is possible. Great work.

The birds are lots of fun and your catch here shows him off very well. You've got an amazing flared wing display on a fine cattail perch plus a perfect background. If you haven't already, some dodging of the left eye to make it a bit more visible might solve the one very minor flaw in this image.
