Tufted Titmouse

Once in a while I get lucky and catch some nice light while shooting in the shade of the evergreens in the winter. Often, it seems I am almost shooting in the dark, but on this day the Sun was shining brightly just outside of this hemlock grove. I like the unusual light from below on the birds, especially with the darker background here.

Canon 7D Mark II; 100-400mm.
1/250 sec. @ f/7.1; ISO 2500
(shot using an Acratech GP ballhead in "gimbal" mode)

Great colors on the bird -- the "busy" background has been handled nicely and does not detract from the bird -- great detail in the larger photo

A good one Wayne! Nice light on the bird, good color and details. The BG looks good also. I found these to be a tough bird to get photographed well. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great capture Wayne, the feather detail is outstanding. I also like the background including the habitat. It's oof enough to enhance not detract from the image. Well done, we all know they don't sit still long! :toast:

Excellent detail and pose, Wayne, and plenty of dof for the body and feet-difficult with this small a bird. I particularly like the light you got in the eye. I shot some Black Tufted Titmice in Texas recently and it was very difficult to get light in the eyes.

Beautiful detail and the image looks great at iso 2500 Wayne. My only thought is that the bird almost seems a bit too big in the frame considering it's quite a small bird but that also minimizes your somewhat busy background. Nicely done. :toast:

Love this image Wayne...especially nice with the setting you had to work with, I seem to have more overcast days than I deserve also, so I get it. But you sure show what can happen even in low light when you know how to work with your gear. Nice work!

Beauty, Wayne! What an adorable species (and pose), and you've captured it wonderfully. Fantastic detail in the feathers and perch!

PS I've been meaning to mention I LOVE your new watermark.
