Common Kingfisher

A familiar bird for many of you, but this was the first time I've had an opportunity to photograph the Common or Eurasian Kingfisher. This little fellow was surprisingly cooperative as we pulled our safari vehicle up near its perch. A nearby pond serves as the background in this shot. This was photographed in Ranthambhore National Park in India.

Canon 7D Mark II
Canon 500mm f/4 IS + 1.4x
ISO 400

f/5.6

The light, the background, and the bird were all good to you. What are the chances that Nature would provide such a neutral and well-toned background to help us appreciate the colors, textures and form of this bird? Not only a good image of the bird, but also a wonderfully simple and artfully balanced composition, just as an artist might have painted it.

Nice job on getting the intensity of the blues so nicely depicted, Max.
