Red-tailed Hawk
by Dennis Plank
I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Looks like a juvenile to me. My first real stop on my trip was Bosque del Apache. I was too late for hordes of Cranes and Snow Geese, but there were still some interesting things to shoot. This bird was perched almost completely unobscured with the very busy bg of the cottonwoods. When he took off, it was almost sideways to my position and I was able to get a couple of shots in before it disappeared. I'm not sure whether the busy bg totally ruins this for people or not. I find it rather interesting, but I'm sure others have different opinions.
