Wisconsin River

I made this picture last fall on a wonderful day while hiking along the Wisconsin River not far from my home. It always seems to have such a peaceful and quiet mood that I so much enjoy. Hope this image brings that through for you as well. The lower Wisconsin River is really a great place for canoeing. Thanks for any thoughts and for all of your comments on my last post.

This is marvelous Nick, really marvelous. I really like your work. You take simple, straightforward natural scenes and show how special they are. Our lower Sacramento River has scenes like this yet I would never have thought of taking such an image. And yet you show how special it is. And what a sky you had that day. Love how those clouds are so 'undefined'. There must be a system to get clouds to look that way. Really nice.

Agree absolutely with the previous comment - a very lovely image. The balance of the composition is excellent, with the block of beautifully rendered trees to the L and the river taking the eye deep into the frame from the R. Makes you want to go there !!

Yes, Nick, this does look wonderfully peaceful and inviting. I find myself especially attracted to the textures in the sand and the cloudy sky. Looks like a great place to explore.

This is a very relaxing photo, with gorgeous autumn colors. Love the banks of sand in the river, just an empty river would not have worked this well. Looks like a splendid place to pitch a tent for the night!

The peaceful mood you mention comes through nicely in this Nick, the only noise coming from the gentle breeze. Nice contrasting colours from the sky and autumnal foliage.

Gary.

Thanks to all of you for your comments on this. As always they are appreciated!
Roel, In the summer and fall all the people canoeing the river do camp along the banks and on the sandbars. They really seem to enjoy the last 50 - 60 mile stretch of the river from Sauk Prairie WI to Prairie du Chien WI where it flows into the Mississippi. The area in this picture around Spring Green is especially popular. Thanks, Nick

This photo really puts on display your ability to, not only display your compositional skills, but also use your intimate knowledge of the area around your home. I love this Nick. From the sand patterns to the fall colors, great sky, and sweeping river scene that screams "quiet". Beautiful work. :toast:

There is a luminosity to your image that makes it very attractive Nick. I like your comp as well as the subtle mix of cool and warm tones.
