I did have enough light on the day before I took the image of the previous post. Here's a take-off shot I was lucky enough to time right.

7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/8.0, 1/3200, iso 800, aperture priority, center weighted average metering with -1/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 and CS6. Removed an oof twig near the perch. Cropped to 15MP from the original 20. Taken at 8:59 am on March 11th.

I appreciate your input on the last post.

Thanks,

Very nice take off shot -- I might suggest less perch and more room on the left and top if you have it -- red pops nicely against the background

Like this a lot Dennis, the "Verm Flycatcher w/o blur" works much better:wink:
Great take off pose with those wings straight-up, nice details in your 'standout' image

Great pose and detail. I like the wings spread out. Agree with a little more room on the top and maybe a crop to take out some of the perch, such as just below the bend.

Given the input thus far, here's a version cropped to put the bird lower and further left.

Thanks for the feedback. :wavey:

Looks great. I was going to suggest a crop similar to your repost, so it's all covered. I like the outstretched wings. :toast:

Dennis,
If I had been here earlier I would have suggested less space on the right, your re-post has covered this :toast: :toast: :toast:

Looks more like skill than luck to me Dennis. You handled this very nicely...plus the reds are just terrific in this. I typed something about the comp, then saw the other comments and repost, so erased it so I can say terrific re-post also! Nice work! :toast:

Dennis, This is a great take-off catch with those wings fully extended.  I'll be the contrarian and say that I like where the bird is positioned in the original image.  To me, the unconventional comp. giving the sense of the bird about to leave the frame fits perfectly with the pose.  If you have it, I do think a bit more room up top on the original post would be nice.
