Memphis - WC 679

Hi again, everyone! With a lot of pets in the Launstein home, you'll probably see us here often on this weekly challenge!

This is Memphis, my 6yr old male Saint Bernard. Memphis is one of the most loyal, kind-hearted, fun-loving, attention-addicted dogs you'll ever meet. For a long time I didn't think I'd ever find another dog like him, but then we brought our newest dog (our 4th) into our home, a 4yr old male Newfoundland), and now I have two of the best dogs on the planet! sad

It's hard to get a picture of Memphis where he isn't headed at you with his head down and tail wagging in happiness, or with him rolled over at your feet for belly rubs, but I did manage to grab this shot of him looking stoic when some deer caught his attention in the distance.

Some Newf pics to come later in the week I'm sure but I thought I should give Memphis the spotlight to start.

Larger version provided if you need as much Saint as possible. enlightened  (Just click on the image above for the larger image lightbox feature on the new system now.)

Fine portrait, John.  Shows off Memphis nicely in a pretty classic pose and a good chunk of negative space.  I really like the warmth in the browns of his coat.  The larger version really shows him off well.

A gorgeous portrait of a gorgeous Saint Bernard, John!  Your depth of field in this shot is perfect, with sharp, crisp focus on his entire face and front yet a completely blurred background.  The exposure is excellent also, with good detail in the white fur.  He looks very regal in this pose!  I see your family loves big dogs also.  With a St. Bernard and a Newfy you definitely have some of the largest ones out there!

Hi John,

This is a wonderful composition with the rich browns and blacks of Memphis's fur against the soft pale earth tones of the background.  I like the whiskers.............................Jim

Thanks, all! I love this dog, that's for sure. Every single endearing character trait a Saint should have, and were it not for destructive tendencies from thunder-induced anxiety, he might have actually achieved canine perfection. sad Memphis is the smaller of our two saints, but try as I might, I've never gotten a portrait I'm particularly happy with of McKinley, our "mountain" of a Saint who is a few years younger. He could wear an actual keg, not just the cartoon versions, Lon! enlightened
