More of a field guide look and it might be a bit tight in the frame.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held, f/6.3, 1/160, iso 1250, aperture priority, center weighted average metering with no compensation. Processed in LR5 and CS6. Warmed it up a bit and cloned out a couple of bright reeds in the bg. A slight crop for composition (final size 17MP). Taken at 8:54 am on February 24th at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas, Texas.

4 commentsIt is a bit tight, Dennis, but a good guide look as you say. Finding one of these in the open by this much is a stroke of luck, for sure!
I like the feame filling image Dennis, but I do wish you had just a touch more room at the bottom. Still very nice to get a bird like this isolated since they tend to hang in very busy environments. Nice work!

I certainly agree and in retrospect I should have taken off the TC or swapped bodies on my lenses. As it was, the 5DIII with a 300 and 1.4TC was a bit too little lens and the 7DII with a 500 and 1.4TC was a bit too much. I'm afraid the excitement of my first encounter with this species made me a bit too excited.
But still.... many would be thrilled to have this one out in the open..... Congrats ! Hans
