The Portal

This shot was a bit of a physical challenge. Had to set the self timer then run like a madman up the hill, dip in behind the rock on the left before the shutter opened then light paint the arch. Not being the picture of health at the moment, I was quite winded but everything managed to work out. Thanks for looking.

Carey, I'd say it was worth the effort!

The painted light looks quite warm - did you use an incandescent torch?  Most LED lights have a wicked color cast...

Well done! Reminds me of "Gaudians of Tomorrow".

Haha, I recognize that, running around in the dark like that. It worked out very well for you, this really looks interesting! Details in the land are just enough to not turn it into a dark blob. Great job!

This is cool, Carey.  Definitely has a science fiction feeling like, "I dare you to pass through this portal?.  It looks good as it shows some details in the dark rock and a fine collection of stars in the sky.

What a wicked cool image Carey!

The composition is right on the money in leading you up to the portal to another dimension, and your creativity is top notch. The technicals look great throughout the image. That portal is one heck of a attention grabber, and love this one!!  devil

Thanks for the feedback everyone, much appreciated.

Jim, it wasn't a incadescent light so I had to adjust the white balance in post.

Mark, I believe you may be referring to the "Gaurdian of Forever" from the episode The City on the Edge of Forever of the original Star Trek series. One of my favoritre episodes and I definitely had that in the back of my mind when making this image.

Nice example of light painting which though not a natural phenomena does enhance the shot considerably.  Great composition too
