A ground level shot of some lupine in the Cache Creek wilderness last spring amongst the fresh greens with an overhanging oak branch... I wonder if they even bothered to bloom this year.

Hi, Dave: I like this ground level landscape, especially the lupine against the bright green background. For me, having the tree branch in there is intrusive; might be more interesting if it had more lichens/moss on it… Additionally, I'd suggest a crop on the right to remove the bare dirt area of background in upper right and tighten up the comp just a bit. Overall, this looks like a nice place for a little R & R.
P. S. If the lupine did bloom, they are drought tolerant for sure! Regrettable drought situation you're in; sure hope things moisten up sooner than later.

Hi Dave I'm glad you included the tree in this delightful image. it gives a sense of scale to the scene .. the lupines make the most beautiful ground level subjects

Dave, those lupines really pop against the bright green tree leaves in the back. I had to spend some time looking, but I've decided that I like the tree branch. It adds some extra depth and interest to the top 2/3rd of the image. Yes, this would be an interesting, but very different view if that branch weren't there.

I am alsoin favour of the tree. The black, dead, moss-covered branches provide a contrast to the vibrant, living new growth of the lupins and their lush backdrop.

An interesting compositon and I really like it, Dave! It's particularly interesting that the profile of the tops of the lupine almost exactly matches the profile of the bottom of the branches! Nicely seen and shot.
