The stellata magnolias here are mostly small bushes, laden with twigs and buds for their short time of flowering - and sometimes you manage to isolate a flower in full bloom ( though one or two buds and twigs have been cloned out )

7 commentsI like the different feelings that I get from different parts of this image, Ian. I feel the compact, orderli-ness of the center, but then a sense of chaos from the petals and the BG. Nice contrasts!

This is beautiful Ian,
The color pallet, the lighting and the petals all combine in a very interesting and enjoyable composition. I would consider some burning or removal of the bright back ground twig that runs parallel with and behind the main twig, it has a very strong presence as posted and distracts from the subject just a bit.
Great Title for this image.
Well done . . .
Ian: Terrific subject and wonderful lighting especially. Really like the center details in the larger version. Most excellent.>=))>
Top notch magnolia, Ian. I'll 2d Mike's suggestion re the bg branch.
Beautifully captured. It is not often a static flower has a sense of motion, but this one does, just as your title says--the petals are evocative of tongues of flame. I admire shots of white flowers where the whites are not blown, since that is often a challenge for me.
Ian, this is a more whole view (and IMO better) than your "fluttering", which was itself a fine image, but had less of a feel of movement because of the cramped quarters. I sort of agree on the OOF stick, but it is not particularly obtrusive. I think just some judicious darkening would be all that is necessary.
Ian, this image is for me beautiful as the last downloaded but different: emotion here against elegance there.
