I caught this Green-tailed Towhee (as near as I can tell there's not a lick of green on the critter) swapping ends on a perch. The Gonzales family has a feeding station open to the public on foothills road just east of Portal Arizona and it's an excellent place for the desert species of the area. Three towhee species were abundant while I was there.
I do wich I'd caught the turn about ten degrees earlier to get the eye a bit better.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/8, 1/2500, iso 800, aperture priority, center weighted average metering with -2/3 stop compensation (I think I'd just been shooting Spotted Towhees and hadn't adjusted), Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 12MP from the original 20.

6 commentsExcellent timing Dennis! The feather detail is great and I like that the feet are a little oof. It's got that sense of action to it. The tree and perch are both complimentary with a nice smooth bg too. Well done!
Like the mid-air capture and the background is really nice -- head turn doesnt really bother me as you still got a catchlight
Love this toe tappin' action Dennis, great mage!
Sharp details where it counts, like the bit of foot blur with its implied motion too.
Nice!
Hi Dennis, you can never count on them to do what you want. Agree with howard, sharp where it needs to be.
