Organ Pipe Evening

I try to get to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument as often as I can. Avoiding the brutal summer heat that is. This image is from March this year on a short overnight with my sister who was visiting from Washington. It's probably my favorite produced from OPCNM- it isn't often you find an intact saguaro skeleton in the right surroundings. No clouds were present this evening but the tones in the sky seem to compliment the greens in the landscape. Nikon D7100, Nikon 17-55 2.8, 1/5sec @ f/16, tripod.

Oh yes. Wonderful sweet light bathing this landscape with some glow on the face on those distant mountains. The cholla on the right seems to be discord with the rest of the image yet when I crop it off the image is weaker. So perhaps it's a welcome discord.

Beautiful luminosity throughout and pleasant colors. Very nice indeed.

Very nice image, Bob! I don't recall ever seeing a saguaro skeleton like that, it's fascinating to me. A fine image with some great subtle light and great balance.

A very tranquil scene, with beautiful light. The dead saguaro amidst all the fresh greens is very nice. Lovely image!

The dead saguaro adds so much character to an already gorgoeus image - nicely done!

Nice photo, Bob. I lik ethe framing teh cholla provides, and the skeleton cactus certainly anchors the image.

Very nice, Bob.  I agree with Igor that the  luminosity  of this image really sets the mood.  My ony nit (and it is a small one) is it feels a little tight to me.  I know that the desert is a busy place and deciding on the framing involves trade-offs.  The barrel on the left could use some space.  Really nice as is though.

Thank you all for your comments thus far. Gary- I agree. That is my nit as well but the comp could not avoid it and have no more additional pixels on that side to work with.

The skeleton remains won me over...all smiles.  I've never seen that ...a real info photo that adds to the fact that it is also art-worthy!   Well done!

Bob, nice foreground skeleton and variety of cacti.  My eyes do not have a problem going to the organ pipe cactus or the center mountain.  I wonder if you'd like a little more contrast/midtone contrast in luminoscity mode as it looks a tiny bit flat overall to me.

Hi Bob,

This image has such a glowing luminosity about it. It just grabs you and brings you into the image wonderfully. I too really enjoy how the tones in the sky compliment the warm luminosity in the lower half of th image.

Beautiful work

An excellent composition here, Bob. The display of desert plant life and or foliage both dead and alive makes a wonderful photograph from this area. For us desert shooters we look for the years with bumper crop springtime growth. You hit this site at a very good time.....laugh
